Effective Ways to Make Money Online

There isn't a day that goes by where I am not asked how do you make money on the internet? Given the current state of the economy, down in the dumps, that question pops up even more. In terms of how I make my living it's an easy question to answer.

1. Sell a product or service
2. Sell someone else's product
3. Advertising

If you plan on taking your website business serious, at some point you will want to have some form of product to sell that follows the old rule of supply and demand. If you happen to be a beginner on the net, don't be discouraged, in due time you will develop something to sell.

If selling a product is the top revenue generator you may not be surprised to find selling someone else's product next on the list. Commonly referred to as affiliate marketing or affiliate sales to those in the industry. The internet is chock full of people making an income from this technique.

Finally selling ads on your site. That includes doing the selling yourself, Google adsense type programs, or other network advertising companies such as Casale Media. These companies take a good cut, however, they did make the sale so it goes with the territory. You will find mixed reviews on Google Adsense. Some do well with it, some don't. I can only speak from my own experience. I manage some sites that make a great deal from adsense, and some smaller sites that only make $100 a month from adsense. To be honest, I am quite happy with those small sites making that $100 bucks.

There are countless programs available. It's your task to find what works well for your respective genre.

While on the subject of money and the internet, I want to write a few lines to explain my experience with MLM and other related money making schemes. In my earlier internet days, by the way, I have been developing sites on the net since 1997, I have tried a few different schemes. Let's put them in the category of "life learning experiences." To make a long story short, my results have been failure. I am not saying they don't work, I am just saying I have learned to not enjoy that style of work. If someone boasts ridiculous income amounts and you don't have to work hard, the rule of thumb is, avoid it! If it were that great, rest assured they would be keeping it a secret!

This article is to explain the general concept of making money on the web. Future articles will go into more detail.
