Blog or Website? Getting Started on the Web

Should I go with a blog or a website? Blog Vs. Website depends on your subject, short term goals, and long term goals. In short, either or both. I have multiple sites and blogs and the system you choose doesn't effect the ability to develop a reader base and deliver content to a viewer. One application I can think of that may require a custom website would be a store front that sells multiple products. You can sell products on a blog, but for more than 10 or so products, to have full navigation and categorization isn't effective use of the blog functionality. You can still have a blog though. Just create a store front and integrate the two through linking.

After reading through these pros and cons and you still can't decide which is better for you, please post a comment below about your project goal, your html css php knowledge, and features you want. I will be happy to give you my professional suggestion. Even if you have decided, post your project details anyway. Be sure to include why you chose blog or website.



Blog Advantages:
Fast and easy to setup - Literally minutes to setup
Efficient Content Management System
Minimal HTML skills needed
Integrated Commenting System
Easy to install plugins
Easy to install and customize 100's of themes with limitations

Blog Disadvantages
Major design changes require html, css, programing knowledge to change.
Posts are archived by date, labels, and categories which still sort by date.
You can not sort content/posts alphabetically or custom.
Not effective for multiple product stores



Website Advantages:
Customization is limitless
The only design limitation is your ability
Better for Ecommerce oriented companies

Website Disadvantages:
Major design changes require html, css, programing knowledge to change.
HTML, CSS, and FTP knowledge to publish pages.
Dynamic sites require programing skills
Page organization requires a dynamic content management system

I am an investment professional and would like to set up either a blog or web site. What I do not like about a blog is that new information pushes old information down. What I would like to do is craete a site or blog that tells the truth about the investment business and how to avoid getting scammed. However, I do not want to write every day. I just want to make some good points and advise people. I also want to individuals to learn and if they like what they raed, perhaps they will contact me and I may eventauly have them as a client. Little if any tech knowledge. So, what do you recommend, blog or web site?
